David Mitchell was born in Southport, England in 1969.
Mitchell grew up in Malvern, Worcestershire and went on to study English
and American Literature at the University of Kent. He didn't say in
England for long after graduating from Kent, moving to Sicily for a
year and then going to Hiroshima in Japan. In Japan David Mitchell taught
English for 8 years and then moved back to England. In 1999 Mitchell's
first novel, 'Ghostwritten' was published.
Followed soon after by 'number9dream'
in 2001. In 2004 'Cloud Atlas' was published
and has been the most successful of David Mitchell's books so far. However,
the release of 'Black Swan Green'
in the first half of 2006 may at last see David Mitchell winning the
Man Booker Prize, having been shortlisted twice. David Mitchell now
lives in Ireland.
